Our project, Exploring Trade Cooperation between South Korea and the Pacific Alliance, seeks to learn the visions and perspectives of key actors in the public and private sectors on the evolution and results of the Free Trade Agreements (FTA) that South Korea has signed with the member states of the Pacific Alliance (PA): Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru. Bilateral relations evolution between Chile and South Korea

  •  

    The Chilean government recognized the Republic of Korea as a sovereign state.

  •  

    In this year, South Korea and Chile established diplomatic relations.  

  •  

    Inauguration of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Chile.

    The Minister of Culture and Information from the Republic of Korea Chu Cheng 

    Yoon visited Chile and met with members of  the Governing Board.

Bilateral relations evolution between Colombia and South Korea

  •  

    Colombia was the only Latin American country that played a role directly in the Korean War. 

    In this year, the first soldiers of Batallón Colombia arrived in the Korean peninsula.

  • During the commemoration of 50 years of relations between South Korea and Colombia, the President of the Republic of Korea Lee Myung –Bak visited Bogota.

    The Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism of Colombia, Sergio Díaz Granados, signed the Free Trade Agreement between Colombia and Korea in Seoul.

    Inauguration of the Monument to the Colombian Fallen Heroes who participated in the Korean War, installed at the base of the 15th Infantry Division, located in the Hwacheon region, South Korea.

    The President of the Republic of Korea Park Geun-Hye paid an official visit to Colombia. During this tour, 19 instruments were signed in different areas, such as defense, health, mines, commerce and infrastructure

    The president of Colombia Juan Manuel Santos, and the Korean Ambassador in Bogota Jang Myung-soo, inaugurated the Comprehensive Rehabilitation Center, whose objective is to provide care to men and women of the Public Force injured in acts of service.

    Inauguration of the “Colombian Park” (Gyeongmyeong park) in the city of Incheon, South Korea.
